Tony's Beard Club Fanzine October 1998
For those that don't know Tony's Beard was written by Paul Rees and Jeremy 'Jez' Jenkins who used to be involved with the club as secretary and treasurer, they once ran a very good fanzine that was both insightful and extremly funny. I have several of the editions and have recently been taking another look at them. Here we have an excerpt from a section Jez put together called 'New Kids on the Block", it related to the newly formed Under 16's side that was blazing a trail through their league with a record of five wins and a draw from their 1st seven outings. I've included some very familiar names and the write up that accompanied them.

Willy - Unfortunatley I only know him as Willy but here we have a full back who is like a pocket rottweiler who won't let anything go past him without snapping at their heels

Matthew John - A rare breed of person who can play football and live in P**l at the same time (Tony's Beard takes a very dim view of anyone associated with the the Pond Life - ed). Prone to lapses in concentration like forgetting to sign the team sheet.

Alex Gear - The club cannot wait for this man to score a matchwinner so we can use the 'Top Gear' headline. The unsung hero of the midfield who gets through a lot of hard work.

Michael Perrin - A working class lad with the nickname of Spud (sorry but I had to get the commentator gag in somehow). A Vinnie Jones type midfielder who has since been christened 'Scud'. Good goalscorer.

James Hill - Son of Suburbs' Peter the Rags fan. James can be also called Jimmy or Jarvis Cocker who is his twin double. Expect plenty of Pulp jokes. James is the club supplier of Internet porn ***********CENSORED************

Alex Joinson - Has ginger hair with a temper to match, plays upfront, argues with referees and wears a knee protector. Does that sound familiar? Known as Baby Loopy or Stevie Bull.
